Virginia B. (Briggs) Fast

Virginia “Gini” Briggs Fast, 88, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 (at the Cleveland Clinic). She was born April 23, 1927, in Shaker Heights, Ohio to Lydia Speight Briggs and Clarence Boyer Briggs. At an early age, Gini moved to Chagrin Falls where she spent the remainder of her life. She graduated from Chagrin Falls High School with the Class of '45, and in she earned a B.A. in Art History from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia.  She was a longstanding member of the Chagrin Falls United Methodist Church and was a past board member of the Chagrin Falls Historical Society. Gini was an accomplished applique quilter, member of the Chagrin Valley Quilt Guild, Valley Girls Quilt Group and had the opportunity to participate in a collective effort to produce a quilt that now hangs in Baltimore, Md.  Gini was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and  The Friends of the Chagrin Falls Library. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. Surviving are her beloved husband, Harold J. Fast, her children, Dwight Marshall Woodward of Athens, Ohio, Ann Woodward Searles (William), of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and John Briggs Woodward (Donna), of Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as her grandchildren, James and Loretta Woodward, Ellen and Charles("Chip") Searles, and Lauren and Becca Woodward, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gini was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Edward Briggs, as well as her cherished first husband, James A. Woodward.  Calling Hours will be held Friday, Feb. 19 from 4-7 PM at the Chagrin Falls Historical Society, 87 E. Washington St.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11:00 AM at the Chagrin Falls United Methodist Church, 20 S. Franklin St., followed by a family-only graveside service.  Arrangements are being handled Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chagrin Falls Historical Society.
