Thomas E. Sherman age 92 of Chagrin Falls, passed away April 11, 2017. Born December 10, 1924 in Illinois. Survived by his wife Diane and his daughter Sarah Hirsch of Arcata, CA. Preceded in death by his son Matthew. He was a proud WWII Veteran who served in the U.S.M.C. as a paratrooper in Iwo Jima. His bravery and sacrifices earned him the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. February 16, 2013 The Plain Dealer published an article titled “Marine Tom Sherman remembers the battle for Iwo Jima” by Brian Albrecht. After the war, he began working for Pacific Gas and Electric constructing high voltage transmission lines and later became Manager of Electric Transmission Products Development at Preformed Line Products. He was instrumental for developing the first hardware to support overhead optical ground wire and all dielectric self supporting fiber optic cable primarily used for the electric utility industry.
