Ruth Streater (nee Haabestad) of Chagrin Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Ruth was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 22, 1928 and grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania. As a young person, she loved sports, particularly field hockey and basketball. She graduated with a degree in secondary education from Temple University. Ruth met Jack W. Streater, while playing tennis, and they were married in 1951. They soon moved their young family to the Cleveland area, residing in Chagrin Falls for over 50 years. Ruth earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Kent State University and was passionate about her career as a librarian. Ruth was also an avid tennis player, skier, golfer and bridge player. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her brother Erling Haabestad, sister-in-law Marie Haabestad, sister Millie Wald, brother-in-law Bill Wald, and her parents, Erling and Myrlva Haabestad. She is survived by her three children, Dave Streater of Ithaca NY, Alan Streater (Janet) of Boulder CO., and Jennifer Gallagher (Michael) of Gilbert, AZ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Richelle Streater, Haley and Rose Compton, and Michael, Moira, and Rory Gallagher, her sister, Grace Borgh (Edwin) of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews as well as a wide circle of long time friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, the family suggests memorial donations to Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center in Bainbridge, OH or Rescue Village in Novelty, OH.
