Phyllis Dagney (Giese) Jones

“Then the dust of man goes back to the ground as it was before, and the breath of life goes back to the God who gave it”

            On the morning of April 6, 2016, Phyllis passed away peacefully of natural causes at Chardon Healthcare Center Nursing Home, in Chardon, Ohio. Phyllis was born on March 31, 1931 and grew up in Waukegan, Illinois.  She was the oldest child of four born to Edward and Dagney Giese. Phyllis was a long time resident of Bainbridge Township and a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church where she served on the Vestments Committee.  She attended Western Illinois University where she pursued an art degree and was a lifelong volunteer at Chardon Community Hospital.  Phyllis was particularly fond of outdoor adventures including snow skiing and canoeing, always with family alongside.  She enjoyed traveling to Europe, was fascinated with the southwest United States and liked exploring different places on cruises.  Two of her favorite hobbies were sewing and visiting museums. She loved spending time with her family and nursed and nurtured her late husband, Rodney, through his life ending struggle with cancer. Phyllis is survived by her siblings, Lois (Bob) Finkel, Richard Geise, Carol (Dan) Makosky, sister in law Dorothy Jones Ewert, two children, Randall Jones and Linda (Jay) Smither; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Mike) Pursley, Matthew (Roseanne) Jones, Jason (Leah) Smither, Rachel (Ryan) Smither Rea, Andy (Ari) Smither, Erik Smither, and Kendall Smither; and seven great grandchildren. Phyllis will be laid to rest alongside of her beloved husband, Rodney E. Jones, at Restland Cemetery in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. A graveside service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, April 16, 2016.Arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home Chagrin Falls, OH.
