Nancy (Schroeder) Carpenter

Nancy Schroeder Carpenter, peacefully passed away at the age of 88 at her South Franklin Circle residence on August 31, 2023.  Nancy was born on June 14, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Elizabeth and Edward Schroeder. She was predeceased by her sister Betsy Scher. Nancy grew up in Chagrin Falls, and graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1954. She attended Denison University and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School where she briefly worked for a Harvard professor. Nancy was married to her beloved husband David Carpenter (deceased 2020) for 62 wonderful years. During her lifetime, Nancy loved working in her gardens and was active in the Chagrin Valley Garden Club. She volunteered many happy years as Treasurer at Chagrin Valley Women’s Exchange (aka, The Sassy Cat) which closed its doors in 2006.  She was a member of Chagrin Falls Federated Church, enjoyed spending time at The Holden Arboretum, and she and Dave took pleasure attending many Cleveland Orchestra performances together. Nancy found satisfaction in projects such as sewing, crafting, antiquing and home decorating. Nancy spent her entire 88 years living in and around the Chagrin Falls area. There, she established her most cherished friends, and delighted in frequent outings with them for coffee or lunch. But, her greatest joy was loving, caring for, and being with family. She is survived by her three children (and spouses) Debbie (Matt) Eaton, Sara (John) Burrows, and John (Alison) Carpenter. She is survived by 6 grandchildren, Mark Eaton, Alison (Trevor) Stameisen and Jay Burrows, and Ellen, Elizabeth and Erica Carpenter. She is also survived by her Nephew Buzz Scher, and nieces Barbara (Patton), Kathy (Brown), and Martha (Clizbe) Scher.

A small family burial took place on Wednesday September 6th at Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 PM October 21, 2023 at the Federated Church of Chagrin Falls 76 Bell Street Chagrin Falls, Ohio 44022
