June K. Ober
Newbury - June Karlovec Ober, Age 98, of Newbury Township passed peacefully on October 10th 2016 at Heather Hill Communities.
June was born August 5, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from John Adams High School and attended Dyke Business College. Growing up, her summers were spent at the family cottage in Little Punderson Lake in South Newbury. June enjoyed swimming, horseback riding and going to Dances with her friends at the South Newbury K&P Hall. It was at one of those dances that she met a local farmer Lloyd Ober, who she would later marry and spend 72 years together. Lloyd and June lived their entire life on the family farm that is still in operation today, at Center Newbury. Shortly after her marriage the United States entered World War II and June went worked at Jacque & Heinz a Solon, Ohio war plant building directional gyros for bombers used in the European theater. After the war she went to work for the United States Post Service working as a Postal Clerk in the Newbury Post Office. After 27 years of employment she got to know just about every resident of Newbury Township on a first name basis. At the age of 42 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer from which she fully recovered. As result, she became a volunteer for the American Cancer Association Reach to Recovery Program giving hope to women facing similar diagnoses. After retiring from the postal service June spent time traveling with her husband and volunteering with the local garden club. June and Lloyd’s greatest joy was getting on the dance floor and recreating that magic moment when they first met. Her smile and engaging personality will be missed by all that knew her.
June is survived by her Son, Les and was preceded in death by her Husband, Lloyd, her Father, Otto Karlovec, her Mother, Julia Karlovec and Her brother, Roy Karlovec and his wife Mildred. A graveside service is planned for Oct 29, 2016 at the Newbury Center Cemetery at 11:00 am. A celebration of June’s life will follow at the Newbury United Community Church on Auburn Rd just south of Newbury Center across from the Cemetery. The family is requesting that instead of flowers, a donation be given to the Hospice of the Western Reserve or to the American Cancer Society.
