Janet R. Peters

A memorial service for Janet R. Peters, 93, a long-time resident of Russell Township, will be held at the Federated Church Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road, on August 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Mrs. Peters passed away on July 14, the same date as her late husband, Donald J. Peters, who died in 2017. She is survived by daughters Polly (Ron) Peters Bottrell of Evanston, IL and Jennifer Peters of Washington, DC., as well as four nieces and one nephew.

Janet was born on March 5, 1930, the daughter of Walter and Pearl Robeson. A graduate of Bedford High School, she married Don in April 1950. They spent the early years of their marriage running Peters Bakery in Chagrin Falls. Janet managed the front of the shop while Don did the baking. Janet later worked at the American Society for Metals in Russell and at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, where she served as Treasurer and Director of the Elderlife program. This is where she found her true calling and was able to use her greatest strength - serving others. She was a member of the Federated Church for 66 years.

In 1954, Janet and Don purchased a century home in Russell Township, where they lived for nearly 70 years. In 1987, they were the first landowners to grant a conservation easement of their 14-acre property to Western Reserve Land Conservancy. Since then, 850 other landowners have made similar grants. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Western Reserve Land Conservancy or Federated Church in Chagrin Falls.
