HELEN J. SHAW (nee McCafferty) 85, passed away February 12, 2024. A longtime resident of Newtown Square, PA and more recently Hershey’s Mill in West Chester, PA, she moved to Cleveland, OH in 2021 to be closer to her daughter’s family.
A graduate of Ridley High School, Helen played varsity softball and basketball, was a majorette in the band, and was editor of the school newspaper. She met her husband Al, a lawyer, while working as a receptionist at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads. They were married for 55 years.
Helen and Al shared many adventures: tending to the various needs of an old house, raising their daughter and a succession of black Labs, and traveling. She loved listening to the music of Mel Torme, the Big bands, and Dave Brubeck. Very social and adept at engaging anyone in conversation, Helen took great pleasure in entertaining family and friends in her home. She was an avid Eagles fan.
A member of Waynesborough Country Club for 45 years, Helen enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and paddle. During her time there she served on many committees and eventually on the Board. She was especially proud of winning the club golf championship in 1997.
