Harold Lynn Obituary

LYNN,

Harold (Hal) R. Lynn was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1919. His elementary school teacher, noting his interest in music and obvious talent, obtained the loan of a clarinet through the auspices of the board of education. Hal was ecstatic. He eventually organized a small band, thus embarking on a lifelong musical odyssey. With the approach of the Second World War Hal decided to volunteer for active duty in the armed service. Five years later, after duty in the Southwest Pacific, he was discharged with the rank of captain in the army. Upon returning home, Hal organized a jazz quartet which toured the Midwest. Tiring of the nomadic existence he returned to Cleveland in 1947 to explore other musical opportunities. A chance meeting with Vince Patti, an old-school chum, resulted in the creation of a theatrical agency.  With characteristic determination Hal pursued his musical career as well as developing an agency whose success spanned thirty-five years. This theatrical organization provided music for country clubs, debuts, dances and other events in addition to producing floor shows. As the hectic pace took its toll, Hal turned to an avocation which not only relieved the day's stress but satisfied his artistic temperament. Thus, he began sculpting in clay, and further expanded his works to bronze casting. His insatiable artistic passion led him to work with steel, wood, and musical instrument parts. This amply demonstrated Hal's artistic versatility. Calling on his wry sense of humor he gave all his art appropriate titles taken from popular expressions. This resulted in a truly unique collection. Hal passed away peacefully on May 10, 2017. A memorial in his honor is forthcoming. Contributions can be made to Judson Hospice 2181 Ambleside Drive Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Arrangements by Stroud~Lawrence Funeral Home Chagrin Falls, OH. www.stroudlawrence.com
