Glen Parker Obituary

Glen Eugene Parker

Glen Eugene Parker died peacefully while surrounded by family on Monday, February 29th in Chagrin Falls, Ohio at the age of 80.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon Parker of Chagrin Falls, OH; Children - son Kim Parker (Jane), Chagrin Falls, OH, daughter Londa Posvistak (Mark), Oceanside, CA and son Kevin Parker(Mary), Burton, OH; ; Grandchildren-Lindsey, Jared, Kyle, Kailey, Daniel, Megan and Sara; Great-grandchildren Jordan, Demi and Vivienne.  He is preceded in death by his sister Thelma Bremer and Howard Parker, both of Fort Wayne, IN.

Glen was born on July 20, 1935 in Payne, Ohio to Harold and Opal Berneice Parker. After settling in New Haven, IN in his early years, he met Sharon Sturm, fell in love and both graduated from New Haven High School in 1953.  Glen and Sharon (Parks and Gabe) were married on December 19, 1953.  While working and going to college he entered into military service and relocated to San Francisco, CA with Sharon and infant Kim.  Upon returning to New Haven after receiving honorable discharges from both the US Army and Navy - a rare and distinguished honor -  daughter Londa arrived in 1958 and Kevin in 1963.  Glen began his international business career at Platka Exports in Fort Wayne, IN.  His early career successes created opportunities for him at larger companies, ultimately landing at the Federal Mogal Corp. in Southfield, MI, where he ascended to the position of Director of the International Division.  With an entrepreneurial itch and love of international business, Glen was sought out and provided the opportunity to buy an export management company in Cleveland, OH, which he did in 1976.  His new company, Marus and Weimer, Inc. was founded in 1930 in Cleveland and was primarily involved in automotive-related industries.  Foreseeing the difficulties for the industry in the 70’s, he diversified the company’s industry focus and moved into various specialty construction product areas.  Marus and Weimer, Inc. has been located in Chagrin Falls, OH for 30 years and continues it’s growth under the focused and disciplined operations established and directed by Glen until his semi-retirement in 2008.

Glen was a brilliant, hilariously witty, and a fiercely loyal man. His love of family, country, hunting/shooting and God remained ever-present; even on a t-shirt he would be sporting his American flag lapel pin.  He never missed a high school reunion and his social calendar was full of visits with childhood, work and friends he maintained throughout all walks of his life. He generously supported many organizations and individuals that followed his passions, from funding Olympic shooting prospects and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation to underprivileged at-risk youth and establishing a Methodist church at his snowbird home in The Villages, FL.  He was a competitive shooter for 25 years and received multiple awards for his achievements.

Glen came from the most modest of means and built a beautiful life for his family. He loved Sharon beyond measure from age 13 until his last moments as he waited for all his children to arrive.

Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls on Thursday, March 3rd – visitation 12:30-2:00 and service 2:00-3:00, followed by 3:30 reception at the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club.
