Ella Shepard (nee Doll), age 98, passed away peacefully at home June 14, 2023. Ella spent her last 18 years living in Chagrin Falls. She was born in Dunkirk OH and lived in OH, NY, WV and FL. She was a fun-loving kind woman, as well as a loyal hardworking employee. She spent her adult life, up to and after the age of 80, working for medical professionals. At the same time, she was a dedicated and caring single mother of 3, grandmother, great-grandmother, devoted wife and caregiver for two husbands through the end of their lives.
Ella graduated with an associate degree from Otterbein University, moved to Chicago to live with her aunt, and started her first job. She married Charles Goss, had 3 children, moving multiple times as Charlie’s jobs evolved. Years after divorce she married Albert (Obby) Shepard, moved to Fort Lauderdale FL, and lived happily in the Sunshine State for 30 years. She returned to Ohio in 2000 to be closer to family and support as Obby’s health declined. In 2005 she moved to Hamlet Hills in Chagrin Falls where she met Emerson Alexander and spent several happy years enjoying life, music, and family. She spent the last few years of life living with her daughter amongst a new circle, and younger generation, of loving and devoted friends.
Ella is survived by daughter Gretchen Goss, daughter-in-law Colleen Goss, grandchildren Megan Kilbane (Marty Joe), Shannon Faulhaber, Scott Goss (Payal Ghandi-Goss), Michael Goss (Eve Brenner-Alsop) and 16 great-grandchildren. Ella was preceded in death by her son Gregory Goss, daughter Gwendolyn Goss, ex-husband Charles Goss, husband Albert Shepard, and Emerson Alexander.
Interment will be at 10:45, on June 23rd at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery for family and close friends. Celebration of life still to be determined. Donations in Ella’s name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, POBox 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192. Arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home Chagrin Falls, OH. www.stroudlawrence.com
