Elizabeth (Betsy) Schroeder Scher, 85, died peacefully on March 14, 2017, surrounded by family. Betsy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert (Bob), in 2004. Betsy is survived by her four children; Buzz (Kerry) of Anchorage, AK; Barbara (Steve) Patton of Chagrin Falls, OH; Kathy (Bill) Brown of Pleasantville, NY; and Martha (Mark) Clizbe, of Millbrook, NY; eight grandchildren, Rob (Stacey) and Tom Brown; Connor Scher; Eddie, Alice and Abby Patton; and Amanda and Nathaniel Clizbe; and great-granddaughter, Andromeda Brown; and by her dear sister, Nancy (David) Carpenter, of Chagrin Falls, OH.
Betsy was a lifelong resident of Chagrin Falls, attending Kindergarten through 12th grade at the Philomethian Street School. She found her calling as a youth when she ran a play school from her home at 32 Walnut Street. She attended Denison University and earned a B.A. in Education from Michigan State University. Betsy and Bob met on a blind date and were married on August 22, 1953. Betsy taught elementary school in Chesterland briefly, then turned her energy to civic activities and raising her family.
Betsy enjoyed travelling with Bob, and especially cherished the year they spent in London, England, where she enjoyed antiquing and all things British. After returning to Chagrin in 1982, she volunteered for the next six years at the Chagrin Falls High School library. She was an avid bridge player, served on the board of the Amasa Stone House, and treasured her friends in the Chagrin Village Garden Club. She and Bob enjoyed many summers at their log-cabin home on Big Moose Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
A memorial service will be held later this summer. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Holden Arboretum (http://www.holdenarb.org) or Rescue Village (http://www.geaugahumane.org). Funeral arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home in Chagrin Falls.
