Eleanor Louise Rohler (nee McPherson) 98, went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2015 at home in Shaker Heights, OH. She was born on June 4, 1917 in Knox County, OH to James Albert and Eva Adele (nee Fry) McPherson.
Eleanor grew up on a farm until the age of 12 then moved to Mt. Vernon, OH just as the Great Depression hit. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, OH. After high school she attended Mt. Vernon Business School and graduated in 1937.
She worked for Windsor Hospital in Chagrin Falls, OH as the manager of the business office and human resource department for 25 years. She then enjoyed 3 years of retirement before returning to work as the Secretary for Riverview Church in Novelty, OH for 10 years. She retired at the age of 81.
Eleanor married James Herbert Rohler on March 17, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, OH. They were happily married for 43 years. Eleanor was a member of Riverview Church for 59 years. She enjoyed traveling and took trips to Scotland, Israel, Egypt and an Alaskan Cruise. Another of her favorite pastimes was playing Scrabble and she was a master at the game giving all opponents a challenge. She enjoyed munching on M&Ms during a Scrabble tournament.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Janet Rohler of Boston, MA; Dan Rohler (Kitty) of Kingman, AZ, David Rohler (Ivy Kopit) of Shaker Hts., OH, Philip Rohler of Shaker Hts., OH and Ruth Maynard of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Rohler, her parents James and Eva McPherson and her siblings, Delbert McPherson, Velma Lewis, Frances Woodward, Emma Jean Wilson and Willard McPherson.
A funeral service will be held at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 S. Franklin St. Chagrin Falls, OH at 1 pm on 11/9/15. Visitations will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, 11/8/15 from 4-6 pm and Monday, 11/8/15 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Graveside services will follow the funeral at Evergreen Cemetery in Chagrin Falls, OH. An online guest book is available at www.stroudlawrence.com
