Douglas Edward Duffies

DOUGLAS E. DUFFIES, Age 86 of Bainbridge Township passed away peacefully on June 14, 2022. Beloved husband of Margaret Avalon (Marble) and the late Jean (Miller); loving father of Lynn Zidones (Todd Smola), Laura Graber (John), and Susan Eckenwiler (Dan); devoted grandfather of Joe, Julie, Jack, Lindsay and Kari; cherished son of Stanley and Doris (Kleberg), dear brother of the late Stanley.

Douglas was born February 22, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away on June 14,2022. He was a resident of Chagrin Falls, Ohio since 1978.

Douglas was a veteran, serving in the US Army Signal Corp. as the 7th Division radio officer on the DMZ in Korea. He graduated from Newtown High school in New York in 1953 and from Clemson University in South Carolina in 1957. His degree was in electrical engineering. He then had a successful career at GE as a Marketing Manager.

Douglas enjoyed golf, tennis and skiing. At age 65 he joined the Babes of 1916, a senior softball league, where he served as Treasurer and played first base. He was a member Lord of Life Church where he served as treasurer for seven years and was elected congregational president for two years. He then joined Valley Lutheran Church. At both churches he was a driving force in helping create their preschool ministry. In 2017 he was recognized for his major contributions to the Valley preschool playground. Douglas had gone on numerous mission trips to Haiti and Road Scholar work jaunts as well as tornado relief aid. Douglas also enjoyed his red Corvette in summer and many travel adventures. He was an encourager and wanted only to make people smile. He will be missed by many.

Visitation will be at Valley Lutheran Church on July 8, 2022 from 1O to 11:30 with a service to follow.
