Donald J. Peters Memorial Service

Set for August 25

A memorial service for Donald J. Peters, 88, a long-time resident of Russell township, will be held at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls on Friday, August 25th, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Mr. Peters passed away on July 14 at his home. He leaves his wife, Janet, whom he married on April 29, 1950, daughters Polly (Ron) Peters-Bottrell of Evanston, IL and Jennifer of Washington, DC. Don was born on January 6, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Emil and Marie Peters. He was a baker by trade, operating Peters Bakery in Chagrin Falls for 15 years before managing the bakery departments of Stop N Shop supermarkets. Don was an active member of the Federated Church of Chagrin Falls, using his baking skills to make loaves of bread for new members, and serving as a longtime volunteer for Chagrin Falls Meals on Wheels. He most enjoyed spending time at home in the century house he remodeled over the past 60 years, and enjoying his beautiful property which included making maple syrup and taking dog walks with his Basset Hound, Bella. In 1987, Don and Janet were the first landowners to grant a conservation easement of their 14-acre property to Western Reserve Land Conservancy. Since then, 500 other landowners have made similar grants. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Federated Church, Chagrin Falls Meals on Wheels, or Western Reserve Land Conservancy.
