Dennis Arthur Coryell, 73, of Chagrin Falls, died August 31, 2025 in the Atrium of the Hamlet at Chagrin Falls. Mr. Coryell had been a resident of the Hamlet since 2021.
A man of wit and humor who loved to laugh, Mr. Coryell was born October 1, 1951, in Ravenna, Ohio, the third son of Otho and Leola (Burr) Coryell. Mr. Coryell frequently said he “hit the jackpot” by being born into the family of Otho and Leola Coryell.
Mr. Coryell was a 1969 graduate of Chagrin Falls High School, where he played cornet in the marching band. In 1974 he graduated from The Ohio State University (B.S., Political Science), and in 1978 he graduated from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., Law). Following his graduation from Georgetown, Mr. Coryell resided in Arlington, Va., and later in Herndon, Va. He spent much of his career as an attorney/research analyst with TechLaw Inc. of Chantilly, Va., involved in the cleanup of Superfund sites nationwide. He retired from TechLaw in September 2016.
Mr. Coryell enjoyed socializing with family and friends, reading, keeping up on current events, watching classic films, following sports (especially Cleveland baseball), visiting microbreweries, listening to music, bowling, working on sudoku and crossword puzzles, collecting board games, and taking nature photographs.
Surviving are two brothers, Kenneth W. of Novelty and Lea A. of Lovettsville, Va. Also mourning him are two nieces, two nephews, three grandnieces, three grandnephews, cousins, and many friends and former colleagues.
Mr. Coryell’s parents, grandparents, one brother (Rodger A.), and sister (Claudia R. Bagley), preceded him in death.
A graveside service will occur on the Coryell family lot at Evergreen Cemetery in Chagrin Falls on October 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
The family requests that any contributions given in his memory be made to the Hamlet at Chagrin Falls or the Alzheimer’s Association.
