David Arlington Withrow (6/8/40 – 8/23/22), born in Saginaw, Michigan and most recently of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, will be remembered as a brilliant forensic engineer in the steel industry, a “road warrior” with a love of travel, gardening, woodworking, home reconstruction, and a larger-than-life personality.
Dave spent his whole professional career in the steel industry, graduating with a Masters of Engineering from Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), in an accelerated Master’s program partnered with Albion College (Michigan). A life-long learner, Dave had a curious mind; when not designing and selling coil and slitter lines for national and international companies, he was learning the art of woodworking and furniture building, and eventually home reconstruction. In his late 70s and early 80s, Dave continued to consult as a forensic engineer in the steel industry, buy and remodel properties, help his neighbors with home repair and rewiring, garden in condominium public spaces in Miami and Chagrin Falls, and donate his blood regularly to the American Red Cross. He also was a major contributor to the B11 Licensed Machinery Safety standards for the U.S.
Dave took pride in his two children (Mother Susan Cowles Bowman), and two grandchildren, visiting when he could in his busy life. He generously helped his children and brother with home projects/repairs as needed.
Dave is survived by brother James Withrow, daughter Lisa Withrow, son Jon Withrow, grandsons Benjamin and Winston Withrow, and nephew Christopher Withrow. Memorial donations in his name may be sent to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
