David Franklin Griffith

David Franklin Griffith, 68, of Russell, formerly Chagrin Falls, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital.  Dave was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 1, 1947.  He was a 1965 graduate of Shaw High School.  After high school  he attended Michigan State University and later took over his father's insurance business, Griffith Insurance. Dave was an active member of the Chagrin Valley Jaycees. He was the Blossom Time Parade Chairman for three years, Chairman of the Blossom Time Festival, and Chairman of the Christmas Lighting Program.  In March of 1979 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. His work with the Jaycees continued for many years. During this time, Dave also drove the ambulance for Stroud's Funeral Home until the local funeral homes, that provided that service for many years,stopped the ambulance service. He loved doing this and helping others.  Dave's love of boats later turned into a business when he started Griffith Yacht Brokerage as well as Griffith Marine Transit. Dave and his family enjoyed boating and living in Vermilion during the summer for many years. After retirement, Dave enjoyed spending winters in Jupiter, Florida and summers in the 1000 Islands. Dave is survived by his children Lindsey Phillips ( Bill ) of Russell and Chris Griffith ( Leah Daschbach) of St. Petersburg Florida.  He was the proud Papa of Camryn Safenovitz and Savannah Phillips. He is also survived by his sister Susan Pengilly and 2 nieces and 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Jean Griffith, as well as his brother, Mark Griffith.  He will also be missed by his loyal canine, Kelsey.
