Carolyn Rood Jones

Carolyn (Rood) Jones was born on July 24, 1929 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  She was the youngest of 9 children born to Norman and Gertrude Rood. She was preceded in death by all 8 of her siblings.

Carolyn grew up in Chagrin Falls where she met Curtis “Curly” Jones. They were married January 22, 1949 and they remained married for 46 years until Curly passed away in 1995.  They had two children, Karen and Jeff.  Curly and Carolyn raised their family in Newbury Ohio.  In addition to raising her 2 children Karen and Jeff, Carolyn worked at Standard Drug in Chagrin Falls and retired from St. Helens School where she worked for 23 years as the secretary. She also helped with bingo at the school.  She gave back to the community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Carolyn loved the Lord and was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Middlefield. She also loved playing cards and she was an active member of the Bainbridge Brown Baggers.

In her final years she was afflicted by dementia, but her loving nature and infectious smile were always present.  Carolyn spent the last few years living with her daughter Karen, son-in-law Ken, and nephew Matthew in Bay Village Ohio.  Caregiving was shared by her son Jeff and Home Instead Home Care.  She spent her last few months at O’Neill Healthcare a few blocks from Karen’s home.  In the last few days the Hospice of the Western Reserve also helped care for Carolyn.  We cannot thank the dedicated care givers from Home Instead, O’Neil Healthcare of Bay Village and Western Reserve Hospice enough.  They cared for Carolyn and the family during a very difficult time.  Carolyn went to heaven on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the age of 90.

Carolyn enjoyed a large and loving family.  She leaves behind many to grieve her loss, but knowing she is in heaven brings them peace. Her family includes daughter Karen Beall (husband Ken Tonegato), son Jeff Jones (wife Karen Hrdlicka), grandchildren Michael Beall (wife Brittany), Eric Jones (wife Olivia), Matthew Beall, Lydia Jones and Trent Jones (fiancé Rebekah Rayburn). 

Calling hours will be on Friday, December 27 from 3-7 pm and on Saturday, December 28 from 10-11 am.  A celebration of life will begin at 11 am.  Calling hours and the celebration of life will be at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer funeral home located at 33375 Bainbridge Rd., Solon, Ohio 44139.  Graveside services will occur following at Munn Cemetery 10234 Music St in Newbury, Ohio.
