Carl Gluf Obituary

Carl George Gluf (90), beloved husband of Caroline (nee King), passed away on November 11, 2025 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He was born on December 17, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Carl Martin Gluf and Catherine (nee Kroner), second-generation German immigrants.

Carl was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (nee Schicker), his sister Rita Palub, and his eldest daughter Terri Wilder (Ray). He is survived by his children Carl Jr. (Victoria), Cary (Ann), and Jane, grandchildren Lindsay (Jonah), Brian (Candace), Marley (Max), Kelli (Patrick)Leigh (Pim), Erik, Tommy, and Matthew (Katie), great-grandchildren Rhiannon, Finn, Callum, and the soon-to-be Maeve.

After spending the first decade of his life in Cleveland, the family moved to Newbury, where Carl became well known as an all-over star athlete making a half-court game winning basketball shot over Chardon for his high school team in 1951. A lifelong fan of Cleveland sporting teams, he avidly tuned into every game possible and passed on his athleticism to his children and grandchildren.

Carl married Barbara Schicker in Strongsville in 1954. Together they loved and enjoyed life while raising Terri, Carl Jr. Cary, and Jane as a life-long resident in Chagrin Falls. Lovingly, always together with Barbara until her much too early passing in 1981, a victim of breast cancer.

After dating 7 years Carl and Caroline (Carrie) were happily married on November 11, 1989. Carrie exhibited great love and exceptional care for Carl especially over the last several years of his decline. Together for 36 years until his death, they would become proud grandparents to eight, who grew up spending great summer fun at the “cottage” on the lake.

Carl established Suburban Window Cleaning as owner operator. He served residential and commercial customers in the Chagrin Falls area from the 1960’s until 2010 when he retired. Through the labor of his work, he proudly supported all four of his children through college.

Carl loved boating, fishing, and vacationing on Lake Erie and its Islands, sharing this love with his family and friends. Additionally, he was the longest active member (65 years) of the Chagrin Falls Fraternal Order of the Eagles (Foe 2436).
