Byron D. Van Iden
Beloved Attorney, Community and Family Member
Byron Douglas Van Iden, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away in Chagrin Falls, OH on September 25, 2025. He was born February 17, 1942, to Starr Stanley (Iden) Van Iden and Elizabeth Hare Van Iden.
Byron was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Charles F. Brush High School. He pursued higher education at Case Western Reserve University, where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1965 and at Marshall Law School at Cleveland State University, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree (circa 1968–1972) and served on the Law Review Board. Over the years, he practiced law with a focus on Business Law and Estate Planning and was known in his community for his integrity and dedication to justice.
In addition to practicing Law, over the course of his life, he owned and ran Equipment Warehouse in Cleveland, Ohio and a Tracey Karate Studio in Euclid, Ohio.
In his personal life, Byron was a companion to Susan J. Burns, until her passing in 2014. Prior to that he was married to Patricia M Rickett, with whom he had two children, Scott Van Iden and Ame Van Iden. He is survived by his children and his sister Valerie Van Iden.
Byron enjoyed boating and for many years was a member of The Crew’s Nest and Put-In-Bay Yacht Club. He enjoyed watching car racing and loved all animals.
Byron’s kindness, counsel, and gentle spirit touched many—colleagues, friends, and clients alike.
