Bertie Lou Williams (nee Prather), age 72 of Moreland Hills, passed away October 14, 2016. Beloved wife of Ted C.; loving mother of Melissa (Joshua), John (Heidi), Calvin (Mary Jane) and Kristi (Terry); precious Grandmother of 10. Bertie is also survived by her siblings: Elsie, Frank (Hattie) and was pre-deceased by her brother John. Memorial Services 10:30AM Saturday October 22, 2016 at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home 95 South Franklin St. Chagrin Falls, Oh 44022. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7PM Friday October 21, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to The College Now Scholarship Program of Greater Cleveland 50 Public Square Suite 1800 Cleveland, Oh 44113.
Bertie was born on Nov. 20, 1943 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She received her B.S. Degree from Oklahoma State University and teaching certificates from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University. She married her husband Ted on December 26, 1999. Bertie had a passion for teaching and educating as well as development. She taught at the Forest Hill Parkway School for 20 years and worked closely with The Cleveland Board of Education; Bertie worked with the Cleveland Botanical Gardens to install two beautiful gardens in her school courtyards. She also worked to incorporate gardens into the science curriculum. Not stopping there, Bertie worked with the Audubon Society, Cleveland Zoo, Natural History Museum and area business’ to bring speakers and animals into school for assemblies.
Bertie loved spending time with Ted, her children and grandchildren, gardening, traveling as well as all her dear friends.
