Barbara Jean (Kidd) Vandivier

BARBARA JEAN VANDIVIER (nee Kidd), of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, 88, died on January 3, 2018 in Bainbridge, Ohio. She was born in Muncie, Indiana on August 25, 1929 to Robert and Pauline Kidd.  Barbara was the wife of Robert (deceased 2008) and is survived by: her brother, Robert Kidd (Sandra) of Cheyenne, Wyoming;  sons,  Blair (Betty) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Brian of Aurora, Ohio; and her grandchildren Jessica Vandivier-Malcolm, Jennifer Vandivier both of Indianapolis, Tiffany Vandivier of Aurora, Ohio and Zachary Vandivier of Aurora, Ohio. Barbara was a graduate of Butler University earning both her Bachelors of Science and her Masters of Science in Education.  She was a member of the education honorary Phi Delta Kappa and is listed in Who’s Who in Education.  She retired from the Solon School System where she taught second and third grade at the Dorothy E. Lewis Elementary School for seventeen years.  She had previously taught in Indianapolis, Indiana, Rapid City, South Dakota and Houston Texas. Barbara was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and an active member of the Cleveland East Alumnae Club, having served as an officer and President.  Barbara was an active member of the St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio singing in its choir for over 25 years.  Following her retirement from teaching, she founded the tutoring program at St. Martins and also volunteered at the Cleveland Children’s Museum.  Her love for her family, children music and the arts manifested itself in all of her community activities. Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 6295 River Road, Chagrin Falls, Ohio 44022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
