Marsden John Elliott II passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 28th. John was born on June 25th, 1944 to Marsden and Marion Elliott in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and Redmond, Oregon. His younger years were spent sailing, water skiing, and making his older sisters’ lives more interesting. He graduated from Oconomowoc High School and attended Michigan State University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He started his career with Inland Steel Container in Chicago, IL, which led him to Cleveland, OH, Ann Arbor, MI, and back to Cleveland. He retired from Meier Transmission in 2009.
John did not allow work to define his life. Those who knew him knew his humor and the big smile he wore wherever he went. He was quick with a funny comment and always had a practical joke handy. It was not uncommon for him to shove your finger into the butter when he passed it at the dinner table or wake his children with a squirt gun. John was always planning & scheming his next bit of fun.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Joan (Hoff) Elliott, his children Nancy (Scott) Roe, Laurie (Leon) Ferraez, and Marc (Jennifer) Elliott; his grandchildren, Evan & Braden Roe, Leon III & Maria Ferraez, Drew & Lauren Elliott, and Perry Anne & Greyson Moore; his loving sisters, Maxine (Marvin) Horn & Janet (Vernon, deceased) Abbott. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 16 at The Federated Church Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Federated Church Youth Group, 76 Bell Street, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022 or The Salvation Army Northeast Ohio Division, 2507 E 22nd Street, Cleveland, OH 44115.
