            The Very Reverend John Clarke Sanders Sr. aged 85, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Arden Courts of Chagrin Falls (OH). John was born in Houston, Texas on March 21st, 1933 and was ordained as an Episcopal minister in 1957. He served as the rector of Saint James Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas in the early sixties and retired from the ministry as the Dean of St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta, GA in the late 1990’s. John was a wonderful preacher and a leader in the fight for civil rights and equality of all human beings.   He is the beloved husband of the late Frances Jameson Sanders who passed away in August of 2016. He is predeceased by his two sisters, Dora Dean and Lucille. John and Frances have three sons: Clarke (April), Scott (Melissa) and David (Marianne). They also had five grandchildren (Brian, Elizabeth, Patricia, Rosalind, and Margot) and two great granddaughters (Alexandra and Josephine). All three sons were there with John when he peacefully passed away in his sleep. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday February 27th at Christ Church, Shaker Heights at 11:00 AM where he was the rector from 1975 to 1986.
