Gretchen Ann Owens

Gretchen Ann Owens (Yarian), born on August 5,1936, has passed at age 87 on February 2, 2024.  She passed peacefully, surrounded by family holding her hands.  Gretchen was most fondly known as Mom and Nana.  She is survived by her four children, their spouses, and fourteen grandchildren: Jennifer Ann (Tony) Marchese and children Ross, Harrison, Quinlan; Betsy Jane Cooper and children Bryan, Brittany, Todd, Tyler; Ian Michael (Ana) Yarian and children YuPin, Juan, Sofia, Kiara, Dora; Kimberly Marie (Frank) Vasarhely and children Kyle, Jacob.  

Gretchen was a talented Medical Technologist for 30 years, retiring from Geauga Community Hospital in 2001. She loved nature, birding, and gardening.   Some of her favorite pastimes were studying various cultures including Celtic, Aztec, and Native American history.  She enjoyed genealogy, geology, archeology, writing poetry, reading, and had an impressive library of books relating to all her many interests. Gretchen also loved classical music her entire life and attended many Cleveland Orchestra concerts with friends and family.  She loved to garden, growing many flowers and harvests of vegetables.  Springtime was her favorite, and to honor her love for the season, the family will honor their Nana Mom with a springtime Remembrance on April 6, 2024, from 1-4 PM at the Auburn Lakes Clubhouse 1 Clubside Drive Auburn Township, OH. 44023. Arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home Chagrin Falls, OH.
